ABOUT MR K.P.S. MENON:
KUMARA PADMANABHA SIVASANKARA MENON WAS BORN IN OCT 1898 AND EDUCATED AT THE MADRAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE AND CHRIST CHURCH, OXFORD. HE TOOK A FIRST CLASS I HISTORY AT OXFORD AND STOOD FIRST IN THE I.C.S. EXAMINATION IN LONDON IN 1921. HE WAS THE FIRST INDIAN TO BE RECRUITED TO THE FOREIGN AND POLITICAL DEPARTMENT OF THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA (SUBSEQUENTLY CALLED THE INDIAN POLITICAL SERVICE), AND HAS SERVED IN MANY PARTS OF INDIA, IN CEYLON, ZANZIBAR, KENYA AND TANGANYIKA AS WELL AS IN CHINA. HE ATTENDED THE SAN FRANSISCO CONFERENCE IN 1945 AS CHIEF ADVISER TO THE INDIAN DELEGATION, AND WAS A MEMBER OF THE INDIAN DELEGATION TO THE U.N.O. ASSEMBLY HELD AT THE NEW YORK IN 1946. IN 1947 HE WENT TO NANKING AS INDIA'S FIRST AMBASSADOR TO THE CHINESE REPUBLIC. "
